Wildlife in Kenya
Not all my travels are outside of Kenya. I am getting around this beautiful country a little to see some of the natural wonders. Of course the wildlife is the main attraction here, and the countryside teems with all types of fauna. A couple weeks ago some friends and I went to a farm called Kapiti.
It's owned and operated by an international cattle research institute and keeps more than 300 head of cattle on the property. This has been tricky in the past year because of the lions and leopard which live in the area and have been taking 'their share' from the heard. Along with the predators (including hyena) there are also the run-of-the-mill African beasts on the sprawling grounds. The giraffe were all over the place when we were there. This fella took the time from his lunch to stare at us and we drove by.
We were no more than 20 meters away and the most concerned he seems about us was that we may want some of the leaves he was eating. He certainly wasn't alone. From the top of the ridge where we were walking we saw dozens of giraffe. Then throughout the weekend there were more and more herds.
